Media Informatics Website Redesign
Members: Chuck Heffner, Tyler Henry, Jim Clark
What Is The Project? This team has taken on the task of redesigning the Media Informatics website from scratch.
The Brains Behind Media Informatics Site Redesign:
- Chuck Heffner: Website Design (CSS, XHTML)
- Tyler Henry: Production Designer/Animator
- Jim Clark: Web Designer
Development Process:
- First Site Design Draft (Deadline: Feb. 28th, 2010)
- Second Site Design Draft (Deadline: March 28th, 2010)
- FInal Site Design Draft (Deadline: April 28th, 2010)
- Systematically analyzing the existing site design from the ground up for its navigational relationships and shortcomings
- Defining the limits for those elements they have control over
- Evaluating their design palette given the restrictions of having to design to a black-and-yellow header and footer.
Project Challenges: Northern Kentucky University is a government institution; as such, it is legally required to abide by the Americans with Disabilities Act for equal access for the physically- and perceptional-challenged.
Integrating CSS2 and Flash into universally accessible content is extremely difficult to do.
Digital Tools Used:
- Beige Box PC (Windows 7 OS)
- Macintosh PC (Mac OS 10.6.x)
- Adobe Creative Suite 4
- HomeSite 2.5
- Notepad
Original Inspiration: The opportunity to take creative liberties in redesigning the current Media Informatics website was presented to the team by Anthony Deiter, MIN 352/452 professor, as a contract job.
